The Belgian Air Force regrets to announce that it has decided to discontinue the F16 solo display.
The reason for this is that the transition to the future F-35A is fast approaching and the F16s are reaching the end of their service life. This marks the end of 44 years of demonstrations of the Belgian F-16 in front of large crowds in Belgium and abroad, by less than 19 different solo pilots and supported by hundreds of aircraft and technicians. Captain Steven ‘Vrieske’ De Vires was therefore the last solo display pilot.
A page has been turned, and in the future perhaps the F-35A will be the future Belgian solo display.
